Six Charged in Gang-Rape and Murder of Dalit Teenager in Bihar; Political Storm Follows

The raped dead body of the Dalit minor girl was recovered from a pond in Muzaffarpur. Such political detractors as the RJD and the BSP are all calling for an urgent response.
Six have been arrested for gangrape and murder after the disfigured body of a 14-year-old dalit boy was found half-burnt in a village in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district. Fuming Opposition wants police immediately to arrest people involved in the incident, that has sparked political furore.

The parents of the minor girl, who are daily wager, reported the matter to the police when their daughter was found by a pond in the village Tuesday morning. In her police complaint the girl’s mother says that, a man she knows as Sanjay Rai and some of his associates came to her home on August 11 in an aggressive manner and took away her daughter forcibly. Sanjay Rai, it is alleged in the complaint, resides in a nearby village.

The complainant continues to this to the effect that while her husband and son were at home at the time of the incident they were unable to combat the abductors since the suspects were armed.


The complainant further states that while her husband as well as her son was at home then, they could not rescue her from the clutches of the suspects, since they were brandishing weapons. 


Six persons have been arrested for gangrape and murder following the mutilated dead body of a dalit teenaged girl being found in a village in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district. The event has caused much political furore with the Opposition calling for immediate arrest of the perpetrators.


Police Version
The police Version the minor girl whose parents are daily wages workers was found in the Tuesday in the village near a pond. The girl’s mother reports to the police that on August 11 a man she claims is Sanjay Rai and some other person broke into her house to take the girl away. From here onwards the employee information is shown as per the employee ID card and as per it Sanjay Rai,

based on the testimony of the complaint, is a resident of a neighbouring village.

As the complainant continued her testimony, she declined that while her husband and son were at home then, they could not stop the abduction because the suspects were armed.
“Rai had been harassing them for quite some time since they are from the Dalit community while Rei belongs to the Yadav community which has privileged status in the village,” the complaint offered.

Rai and five persons whose names have not been disclosed were booked for gangrape (section 70) and murder (section 103) of the ‘Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhit’ that spells laws in India or BNS and sections under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. Rai is currently absconding.
Maintaining that the investigations were in progress, the police had yet to receive an official post-mortem report, for instance, Senior Superintendent of Police of Muzaffarpur Rakesh Kumar said that they have no concrete evidence where it is mentioned that the girl was raped.

The postmortem report revealed that there were stab injuries on the back of the neck, head of the dead person and the palm Evidence have been collected from the scene by the FSL team and the dog squad A scabbard has been recovered, said Kadam.

Presentation
As per a presentation made by a victim’s father, the accused, Sanjay Yadav, had desired to marry his daughter who is a class ninth dropout. “We have been tortured by the Yadavs one or the other way Many of us used to work for them Late, Sanjay Rai was forcing me to give my minor daughter to him At that my daughter left school,” he said to the Indian Express blindly.

It is for this reason that the FIR too makes mention of it. In the FIR, the man is reported to have threatened to kill her if they failed to marry her off to him; it brought out outrage, particularly as the complainant’s teenage daughter was married off to a 45-year-old man.

The case has created a political volatility in the Lalu Prasad Yadav’s home state, Bihar where Leader of the Opposition, Tejashwi Yadav has targeted the state’s Nitish Kumar government.


“The cruel act is clear evidence of Nitish Kumar’s ‘letting go.’ Murders, rapes and other heinous crimes have become the norm these days,” said the RJD leader, who was the state’s deputy CM until recently.
Mayawati, the BSP Chief and the Former CM of the UP also mentioned this incident in her tweet on the Tuesday.

“Recently in Bihar, Kamlesh Yadav and his companions gang-raped an 18-year-old Dalit girl of Madhubani district and a few days later, Sanjay Rai (Yadav) and his companions gang-raped and brutally murdered a 14-year-old Dalit girl in Muzaffarpur district,” the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president wrote on X in Hindi.

The post further said

‘This report received from the BSP Bihar state unit is very sad and worrying The Bihar government should take both these incidents very seriously and take strict actions against the aggressors so that such incidents are not repeated in the future The Indian government should pay special concern about the safety or the respect of the Dalits’.

However, local president of BSP Vijay Kumar called for an inquiry at the higher level. “This is a clear case of brutality and should be dealt with the seriousness it deserves.I think the accused is highly influential person. If the police do not take adequate action against the accused, we will protest,” he said.
In the meantime, the Janata Dal (United) also opined that the police were ‘seriously handling the case’.
